Three Benefits of Microdosing

While microdosing is still an unfamiliar concept to many, there is no doubt that it is gaining some traction, especially in recent years.  From the early research done by psychologist James Fadiman, to more recent anecdotal studies; there is enough evidence to show that microdosers do experience positive results and benefits from microdosing.

While there are many potential benefits of microdosing, here are three that are the most prevalent and consistent throughout each study:

  1. Reduces Symptoms of Mental Illnesses

While it’s certainly an oversimplification, people generally microdose for two different reasons: to decrease the frequency and intensity of undesirable mental states, or to improve the frequency and intensity of desirable mental states. 

According to research, more than 6.7 million people are living with a mental health condition in Canada. Microdosing can aid in reducing the frequency and intensity of undesirable states caused by various forms of mental illness, including anxiety (generalized or social), depression, ADD/ADHD, etc.  

Microdosing can also increase certain desirable states, such as, feelings of high energy, being productive, and improved relationships/increased empathy.

2. Boosts Creativity, Energy, and Productivity

Various microdosing users have stated an elevated desire to indulge in creative activities. Artists such as Yoko Ono and Adrian Piper created their most successful pieces of art while microdosing.

In 2018, ‘The Conversation’ came out with an article called “‘Microdosers’ of LSD and magic mushrooms are wiser and more creative”. This article covered details of their recent study where they questioned individuals who microdose regularly compared to those who do not. Their survey revealed that microdosers scored higher on wisdom, open-mindedness, and creativity.

In 2016, Wired came out with an article where they interviewed young professionals located in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. These young professionals spoke on their experience with microdosing, and specifically how it changed their work ethic. They found that by taking a small amount of LSD every few days, they were able to stay productive and energetic throughout their workday. They strongly believe that it is optimizing their mental prowess.

3. Overall Physical & Spiritual Health

Many microdosers report that in addition to the increased energy levels, they also found themselves to be more health conscious. Studies show that some users experience an increase in stamina and a newfound love of healthier food options. Microdosing has also been known to help users fall asleep quicker and wake up feeling refreshed.

Microdosing has a large effect on your spiritual health as well as physical. Microdosers will often feel a closer connection with those around them and allows them to get a better understanding of their own self-worth.
